What is it about Fall/Winter?

When it comes to beauty, I notice so many color changes all year 'round. Trends, textures and the generations are always changing, and of course the media has a huge influence on the latest beauty trends. Take Pretty Little Liars for example!

The cast has created a shock wave of inspiration (at least for makeup lovers, let's hope no one's getting any ideas from A...) all over the world.
From left: Spencer's (Troian Bellisario) defined eye for girls that want a more natural look, Aria's (Lucy Hale) doe-eyed look, Emily's (Shay Mitchell) flawless skin, and Hanna's (Ashley Benson) smokey eye.
I've seen countless recreations of these looks all over YouTube, but these trends stay all year long.

So what is it about fall and winter that get us into those oxblood nail shades? Or those deep burgundy lipsticks with more naturally defined eyes?
What is it about snowfall that makes glitter more acceptable than during the spring?

Let's get glowing!

I think that we draw inspiration from the environment around us.
As far as fall goes: the reds and browns in the trees lead us to start wearing those deep, dark reds you wouldn't wear when the trees are green and the flowers are pink and purple. And those oxblood nails (which is really a new trend, but the color has been around) match the trees as well.
We also get more of a Halloween vibe; we become more daring as the day approaches because we like to test and try new things (black lipstick, anyone?). A smokey eye is mysterious, and orange nails match the pumpkins that people are putting out all over the place.

Get inspired:
Eyes
  • MAC eyeshadow in Texture, Sketch, and Carbon
  • MAC paint pots in Rubenesque and Indianwood
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow in Baked (a personal favorite!)
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On pencil in Perversion
Lips
  • MAC lipstick in Night Rose, Amorous, Ruby Woo, Syrup, and Flashplay

Of course no one is limited to just these products, these are just a few that I'm a fan of that fit the idea.

And winter: as the weather gets to temperatures below 50, we tend to snuggle up in our favorite chunky sweaters, which often inspire a makeup look that has been around for ages: a natural eye and a dark (or brightly colored) lip.
We also see lots and lots of glitter for those holiday parties! Could this be because the first few snowfalls (before they get plowed and dirty, anyway) look like someone sprinkled MAC's Reflects Pearl all over the ground? (...Does anyone else wish it snowed glitter?)

Get inspired:
Eyes
  • MAC's paint pot in Painterly
  • MAC's glitter in Reflects Pearl, Reflects Antique Gold, Reflects Blue
Lips
  • See above for MAC shades
  • Urban Decay lip stain (Lip Envy) in Envious and Greedy

Anyone else want to give input on what inspires these looks? (Other than runway!)
Thanks for reading everyone, another post will be here soon!
