How Long Does Yours Last?

Your makeup, I mean!
This is going to be a post devoted to one of my favorite things: eyeshadow primer.
Eyeshadow primer is one of things that too many people don't know about, but everyone should know about. For me, it's one of those beauty products that I can't ever forget, even if I'm not wearing eyeshadow. It keeps my eyeliner from running, smudging, and running away from my eyes (and for me, this is very important because on a day-to-day basis I usually wear a pretty dramatic cat-eye).
So, let's get glowing!

There are tons and tons of benefits to wearing eye primer; some primers do more than just hold your eye makeup in place! I use the Sephora Perfecting Eye Primer, which actually prevents wrinkles and plumps already existent wrinkles around the eye while you wear it. (I don't really worry about wrinkles, I'm one of those people that believes in "if you're going to age, love your body while it does its thing"...that, and I'm only 18, but it just happened to be that I picked up a relatively inexpensive primer and it happened to be wrinkle-preventing)
I've had a good experience with this one, it's a white gel consistency; when you put it on and spread it (with your RING FINGER! It's the most gentle finger on your hand, making it less likely that you tug and pull the incredibly delicate skin around your eyes) across the lid, it's creamy, and comes out clear once it's thin enough. You hardly need any at all; hardly a pea size will do for nearly both eyelids.
Once I apply the primer and it dries, which takes a little longer than I would like it to, I take a MAC paint pot in Painterly (the one closest to my skin tone) and slather that on my eyelids over the primer.
I'd originally purchased a paint pot as my primer when the salesperson in MAC asked if my eyelids were oily and that's why I wanted a primer, and at the time I had very dry spots around my eyes, so I told her no and she handed me a paint pot. Now don't get me wrong, the paint pot is awesome, it's just that my chemistry in my skin changed a little and I found I needed a primer underneath to keep the pigment in the paint pot from creasing.
The paint pot does all the evening that my primer doesn't do (since my primer isn't pigmented, unlike Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which you can get in a variety of shades), because it has a slight pale color that covers all the veins and imperfections you would see through the eyeshadow, or anything that would prevent the eyeshadow from looking even. It also keeps eyeshadow on longer, because it has a slightly sticky consistency. It's awesome.

Every person has a different experience with primers, so I'd like to shop around more.
I've heard tons of good things about Too Faced Shadow Insurance (and their Glitter Glue is fabulous, I just recently decided to try it!) and the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I've heard mixed reviews about the NARS primer, as well as the Kat Von D primer, so to each their own. Shop around, see what works for you.
What I can tell you is that primer is an absolute necessity in a beauty guru's, aspiring makeup artist's, makeup artist's, "amateur's", etc. kit. It's a staple that will help you throughout all of your beauty endeavors, and I highly recommend trying it out if you've had trouble with your makeup melting during the day. This is going to minimize those chances by a billion.

Let me know if you have a favorite primer!
Happy hunting :)

    1. Absolutely! I would just be wary of the ingredients in some of them; some clog your pores pretty bad while others are really good. Good luck!
